Zebrasoma Tangs and Sea Grasses?

Hi everyone!

I'm in the final planning stages for converting my system to a seagrass biotope, and it occured to me that one of my long-time residents is a Zebrasoma flavescens.

What kind of damage can I expect this guy to do to Thalassia or other seagrasses? Does he get voted off the island, or am i being overly parnoid? I'd hate to invest considerable $$ in this project only to end up with a tank devoid of seagrass housing one very fat Tang!

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks!

Scott

Every tang is different, you might start with a test piece. Give it some time, see if he likes it. Maybe you will get lucky and he won't

I added some sea grasses that had washed up on a local beach, and my sail fin tang wasn't interested. It was a cold water grass that didn't survive long, but now I have some confidence that I can try it with something else.
