Ok guys/gals just for laughs I will show you the first saltwater tank I had (still have it in storage). And then fast forward to the current tank and a year later. I would say while looking at it that little tank made fairly good strides. Also pay close attention to the picture on the old and you will see my first mistake in saltwater.
Then

Now

I will start with the issues:
1. That Biofilter on the back wall was the worst mistake ever.
2. No powerheads only small HOB filter with media in place.
3. Left over freshwater tank that was treated with copper, however the corals that went into it done fine.(You can tell the copper by the blue on the seals)
4. 2 small pieces of Liverock
5. That thermometer, it was cracked somehow and I happen to see what looked like rust in the tank after a few weeks then got to looking and seen that it was the black particles in the bottom of it (weight I guess).
6. Sand from the beach.

Now to the reason why I had all this stuff, this is what the LFS set me up with. but hey I wont complain without her I wouldn't have went to saltwater at all.

You know, this could be a fun thread.Come on,lets see those first tanks!I can't find my pix of my first tank but it is better that way.It was a wal-mart 20g combo.Sand I brought back from Destin, one 5lb live rock and the plastic plants. To me,at that time,it was awsome!Whats funny is that was only a little over a year ago!Seems like 10 years and $???? later!

Was it that pet store(the lady) out in the Woods between Jasper and Wolf creek?
What were you doing out there in the woods?

Ol, Lady owns a piece out that way not to far from the pet store. We go and cut our Christmas trees down from out that way.

I have stopped by there, but it has been a while and I did not pay that much attention to her setups. Whats up on the RPE frag?

After looking I am afraid to try and frag it, no polyps have really seperated from the others enough for me with my limited experience to frag it.

I found the only 2 pics I have of my 65 gallon. My harddrive got reformatted recently after a dang virus got on my pc. Anyway, here are the only ones I found. One is when it was fairly fresh, and the second is probably around 9months to 1 yr...

Thanks Allen! I spent a lot of time on that dang stand! Yeah, the guy on TV kept asking me to turn him more towards the tank, so I ended up moving him across the room. :)

Oh my, reefing is certainly a "live and learn" experience.
The history of my 75g for its first two years can be found by clicking on the little read house above this post -- sadly humorous really. I haven't done anything with that website in a couple of years, but things do look a little different now.

You know it's funny, how MUCH our tanks change over time. Some things don't make it, then some get out of control. When I look at the pictures of my tanks, boy have things changed.... all of the (MANY) different stages. As H@rry has reminded me of the MANY rock slides. There is NO way in getting every thing back in the same spot. BUT, It's still FUN!!!!!!!! :D

Rock Slides are unfortunately an issue with my rock and its size. I will be replacing my rock one or two pieces at a time with dry rock and maybe some aragocrete structures like seen on garf.org.

Here are some of the changes :)

And again it is different from the last picture :)

Nice progress pictures, y'all :)

6Speed - I really like your canopy and stand! You've done a great job. The 75G tank seems to be coming along nicely.

I am wondering how I can rearrange things and create more space for my corals without losing the caves inside the rock work that my fish love so much. I am literally running out of space as my SPS's are growing fast and big.

Mary - It must have taken a lot of courage for you to dismantle the big rock scape you had initially. Your corals have grown so much since then and the tank is looking better every time you post a picture :)

Sand I brought back from Destin, one 5lb live rock and the plastic plants. To me,at that time,it was awsome!

Buzz, we did that, too!! It was back in '98. Kids and I brought home a bunch of hermit crabs from Destin and had to keep them going.

It reminded me of the time when I used to collect things in the ocean back in Japan. My brother and I used to catch a type of gobies and crabs and kept them for awhile in big buckets. We also caught a bunch of small green blowfish and had fun with them - getting them mad and blown up big. We lived only 15 minutes away on foot from the ocean front.

Although my parents always had a large aquarium at home, my brother and I had our own first aquarium when we were 11 and 12. We made a bunch of mistakes and lost many things along the way, but it was fun. Since then, I always had an aquarium or two of my own.
