I was just browsing the Want Ad, and saw this add for a man selling 25 used 1000 watt metal halide flood lights for 100 dollars each! ...would this be ideal for a fish tank?

if so...do they cost alot in electricity to run?

do you think I should call the guy up and ask if theres any left...the light would probly be going on my 20 gallon...would this be way too much?

1000W on a 20g? ROFLMAO
WAY TOO MUCH LIGHT!

A single 250W would be more than enough, a 175W would let you keep anything in that short/small of a tank-IMO

You may almost be able to bring your saltwater to a boil. If you had a larger tank it depends on what kind of ballast they run on.

I suppose if you added a huge fuge, like 100g+ and put the 1k halide over that, your macro would grow insanely fast..

Sounds like an awesome idea on a 20, but I would get 2 instead and be sure to get a 1000watt heaters as well, and crank that bad boy up all the way. oh yeah don't forget to move your tank to the basement by the furnace
