This is very cool site. This is my first time posting, so hello first of all. Yes, I have a 10g FOWLR except for the fish part. I plan on getting my first fish this Saturday. Probably some kind of Damsel. In there now for inhabitants is one Red Leg Hermit Crab. Now for the Damselfish, in your advice, which Damsel is the best for beginners? Thank you for the advice!
 
Don't get a damsel they are really mean and agressive. In my 12 gallon aquapod the first fish I added was a black percula clown. You could probably add a clown.
 
I'm workin' off allowance, so NOW my only options are Damsels. I guess I could mooch off the parentals to get my a False Percual Clown. I had 2 stock plans in mind for this tank.
1: 2x O. Clowns
4x Red Leg Hermits
1x Turbo Snail

2: 1x Yellow-Tailed Blue Damsel
2x Red Leg Hermits
2x Turbo Snails
 
If you can wiat and save up mony I would due stock option #1. It will be worth it in the long run. If you get the damsel and want to add something else you will have to tear the tank appart to get to it. I had to do that in my 90 gallon with a pygmy angeal. I hated doing it to.
 
Damsels are beautiful, active, and interesting fish. They are just so dang mean. If you plan to only keep one or two damsels that would be great. After all, it's just a 10 gallon. If you had to remove them someday it wouldn't be too tall of an order to take some rocks out of a 10g to catch them.

Remember, if you put the damsel in there it is now a damsel tank. It will likely kill any other kind of fish you put in.
 
Yes think about the long run. remember since your tank is a FOWLR you are concentrating on fish. Pick a fish that you will really enjoy.
 
Inverts should be ok with a damsel. If you want to add a damsel you could always add a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp. They have loads of personality.
 
i have 4 blue leg hermits, javanese damsel, and an emerald crab and i like them. the emerald crab is so funny he just eats all the time and spits what he doesnt want out. the damsel is awesome too. he comes to the front when i look in the tank and eats the food out of my hand
 
Gettin' my Yellow-Tailed Blue Damsel tomorrow. Can I really not add any other fish? If there are possibilities, what would they be? I heard that these Damsels are not so aggressive?
 
i had a yellow tailed damsel in my 29g.... i also had two dominoe damsels...i could not of hated them any more than i did. thats my opinion though.. just save up like 20 bucks and get a clown or somethin like that.. damsels r just no fun
 
chromis in a 10g though? sounds like a massive bio-load, i would personally do a shrimp/goby pair, and maybe 2 clown gobies in addition to your other goby
 
lol. Are they really that bad? Jeeze. I thought that chromis were schooling fish? But then I have heard that they can live solo. I'll have to think about it.

Does anybody have any problems buying fish for nano's? I would think that the people would like freak if they knew a sw fish was going in a 10g. Well maybe not.
 
I'm kinda stuck between a clown and the Damsel. I was just talkin' with my mom and she said she would help me out a little if I were to get a clown. But the thing is I don't want to kill it because I am soooooo new to this.
