10G setup advice

Just setting up Nano from bits I have kicking around:

10G aga, 96w pc Aqualight, CPR HOB fuge...is a modded MJ1200 going to be to much flow on a BB tank ?

it depends on where you place it i guess. i wouldn't blow it directly at anything but ou could probably point it right at a wall and it would provide great flow

I'm getting ready to do the same thing...setup a little 10g out of spare parts (including MJ1200). What I am thinking about doing is using a small bit of plastic tubing to connect the pump to some PVC and doing a cheap, simple spraybar along the top of one of the sides of the tank to help diffuse the flow. The spraybar will also restrict the pump a bit so the back pressure will keep the pump from pumping at full strength. Like I said, haven't done it yet, but it might be a nice solution.

Here we go:

Here's a solution....

I have a MJ 1200 on a 5G AGA, sand bed.

The flow was insane at first, pretty much made a snow globe out of the whole thing.

I threw in an impeller from a MJ 400 that I had lying around.

That solved the problem perfectly. I'm sure you can buy replacement impellers online for cheap.

You can probably just aim the jet at the wall and have some nice flow with a BB.

Or, you could potentially cut off parts of the impeller to make it a little bit smaller.

ok the MJ seems to be putting too much heat into the tank, so I might have to rethink this.

Anyone running a sump on a 10G?

I am. Non- drilled at this point. A maxijet is pulling water out of the tank and into the sump where it is allowed to overflow back into my display.

I'm planning either a 5 1/2 or a 10 (haven't decided yet) and while I won't be using an MJ 1200, I will be using 2 or 3 mini tunzes as a closed loop. To do so, I'm placing a piece of acrylic as a false back wall and drilling the acrylic. Think of it as a nanocube in a 10 gal AGA with more space for a fuge and more inlets for a more diverse flow pattern. Perhaps more work then what you were looking for, but it is one way to create a closed loop with a powerhead without having to drill the back of a glass tank...plus, you can hide all of the stuff like you would in a sump.

I just finished doing a closed loop on my 10g using an up and over the top manifold style of plumbing, so no drilling. Seems to be working very well and I like the look better than a powerhead in there. I used this pump

PanWorld 40PX-MD20R

Keep us updated with pics. I'm making a 15L right now and spent last night cutting up acrylic to make my false back - just like what you were talking about there.

It'll have a few MJ's peeking out from behind. I guess its an AGA NanoCube :).. in some way.

Shooter7- have any pics of that closed loop?

I don't have any immediately ready to post at the moment. I did, however, take some pics of the final plumbing after I got it all together, so I will have some to post. I have rock in the tank and have started moving corals into it. I was waiting until the corals got a bit more settled before I took more pics and posted my own 10g thread. I'll see how things go this evening and maybe post some early pics.
