I have an old 10g aquarium and was wondering if it would be big enough as a sump for my 75g tank when I convert it to SW. Also I am a bit confused on the whole sump idea. How do you get the water to the sump and back to the tank. Do you put your skimmer on the sump? What all goes into the sump? Any help would be great!

Generally, you want to go a larger size just because it allows you more room to play with equipment and options, and allows more space for macroalgae, etc.; but if a 10 gallon is your only option, there's no harm in that either (and it will for sure fit in the cabinet).
Gettng the water back in the main tank... by a large pump. Many people use mag drive pumps. GPH circulation and all that are covered in the article.
Many people do keep their skimmer in their sump. Depends on what kind you have, but it saves room and keeps it out of sight.

If you want a fuge in your sump also, it will be just impossible to fit everything in there... I was going to do that for a sump for my 30g but I just couldn't get everything to fit. I'd suggest getting at least a 20g and make your sump out of that. Look for a used one locally and it will still be cheap.

Or go really cheap and get a rubbermaid. 24 gallon rubbermaid is the most I can fit in my 90 though, the rest are too wide.

BTW: You can put your 10 gallon in the rubbermaid, let it overflow into the rubbermaid, and you've got an instant baffle. I just learned that trick. Skimmer goes in the 10 gallon, and fuge can go in the rubbermaid.
