Hello everyone, quite a simple question I have if any of you could post it :D

Could someone post....

1. 10k Halides only
2. 10k Halides with Actinic
3. Actinic ONLY

** Please specify what type of actinic you are using and what halide bulb you are using.

I am particularly looking at XM or Ushio bulbs but not sure yet. Originally I was gravitating towards radiums but apparently the growth isn't close to XMs or Ushios at 10k. Aside from that, I will probably just grow the frags out and swap to radiums after a year or so.

I don't think many run 10k anymore. I've run them in the past but it's so yellow even with actinics. 14k is the lowest I would personally go. There is a lot more to growth than just color spectrum IMO

Couldn't one do something like grow out frags into colonies with 10k then swap to radiums when the look is full? With radiums, from what I've read and seen, this takes about 2 years but with a good 10k bulb the par is insane, and the time required can be up to halved, if not more.

Of course, this is not the only factor, but anecdotal evidence from people clearly shows that lower ugly yellow bulbs aren't exactly ugly to our corals :lolspin:
Aside from that, couldn't the yellow (which I believe to be from the 10k not hiding any DOCs in the water unlike blue bulbs, as 10k bulbs are actually white according to some) be neutralized by a combination of actinic t5 and blue+ t5s?

I'm using 3x250w Reeflux 10k bulbs with a RB led strip over my 180 right now. Battling some nutrient export issues at the moment, but my coralline algae has exploded with growth (I was using Radiums for the last year, but they were too blue for me). The Reeflux are a little on the pink side (they have a big red spike that really accentuates the pink in the coralline), but so far so good. I may go up to Ushio 14k next bulb change or try adding some blue LEDs in addition to my RB array.

I loved my tank when I ran XM 10K metal halides with BuildMyLED actinic supplements. I had other issues going on with my tank and bailed on MH entirely, but if I hadn't had the tank crashes I did at the time I'd probably still be running them. 10K with actinic supplements is a fantastic look for SPS. Even my zoas and LPS loved the spectrum and looked their absolute best with the fastest growth at that time.
