My dad is looking at giving me his 110 tall tank. I currently have the 75 gal. Would this be a good tank to upgrade too? I'm a worried the tank is too tall for a good reef tank, plus he has had freshwater in it not sure if he has used any chemicals or not. thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

it should be ok with a good cleaning , unless he used copper in his fresh water tank , they are deep and need good lighting to get all the way down to the bottom of the tank , a couple good MH should do it for you ,,,

long arms -- uh no. yeah reaching the bottom would be an issue. I don't know if he used copper or not. just have to sell the wife on a "free tank". Worked last time with the 75. Unfortunately she kept track of how much that free tank cost me to set up. Ideas on what lights would be appropriate? Does anyone know if it can be drilled?

it really depends on what you plan on keeping in it , if your going to keep just softies , zoas and such , you can get away with VHO, T-5 type lighting.
if you want some sps get a couple 250-400 watt MH bulb& ballasts and some t-5 blues <1st choice for me on deep tanks
