12 gallon eclipse. project ideas

Roll Tide!!!
Well I have a 12 gallon eclipse tank that I was using as a QT now I want to do something different with it. I was thinking of maybe doing like a rock and foam aquascape and maybe a mantis shrimp. Anyone have any other cool ideas for this tank? Is there another unusual species I could keep in this small of a tank?

i like the mantis tank idea. it would look cool to have it look really natural w/ a mantis shrimp and some plants. i saw a pic of a tnak like that once and it was really cool.

I think I'm leaning towards the mantis idea too but at the same time I kinda don't want just one species in a tank. If i could have them in a pair that would be cool but I don't think that will work.

My daughter has a eclipse 6 that she is using for her planted tank. We recently took out the light that came with it, and the ballast, and replaced it with a sun-brite led bar. Fit perfectly, in fact, we have room for 1 more if needed.

Why I bring this up is because while the led debate is raging, it does offer a small package with room to try new and different things. Also, the eclipse is plastic which offers room to drill and play with water flow.

Mantis shrimp is one option. Clown and host is another. Lots of options depending on what you want to do with lights and current.

I was thinking of putting a pc retro kit in there with the 2 40 watt bulbs and parabolic reflectors which should be enough light for just about everything. Thats 6.66 Watts per gallon in a pretty shallow tank. I already have a maroon clown and a BTA in my 90 reef so I don't think I will go that route. I am also concerned about water stability in a small tank with anemone.

Mantis tank would be neat, but there aren't too many species that can live in that small of a space. N. wennerae would be a good candidate though, stays pretty small. It's a smasher and you might be able to keep a fish or two in there with it, as long as you keep it well fed
