Would I be able to do a purple tang and maybe a kole tang in a 120 gallon 4 foot tank? What would be the maximum amount of tangs you all would put in this tank size? I will probably have some chromis, McCosker's Flasher Wrasse, clown fish, a coral beauty and maybe a royal gramma if there is room. What do you all think?

Would a yellow tang or some kind of other tang work better in this system?

the purple can get ago I hear never had one myself. if you want 2 smiler shaped tangs I would go with yellow and kole.

alot of ppl keep hippos and a 120. however that is debatable...

the yellow tang just doesn't do a lot for me for some reason. Maybe anyone else with this kind of experience will chime in on this?

In my 120 gallon I have a Two Spot Bristletooth, and a Chocolate tang.
I wanted a Purple tang instead of the bristletooth, but with the tank being only 4 ft the purple tang is more than likely to become aggressive as it grows.

I would pass on the purple for any 4 foot tank. They may start off fine, but as they get larger they will become more aggressive, and the small tank is just going to multiply that aggression. I tried it in the past, the purple tang ended up cutting my male Clarkii clown, to the point of drawing blood.

I would stick to just one tang in that size tank and preferably a smaller one. tangs like to swim a lot and 4 feet isn't much to swim across. The tomini tang stays around 6" which would work better in that size http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+43+334&pcatid=334

liveaquaria states that the yellow eye kole, Mimic Half Black Tang (Acanthurus chronixis), Two Spot Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus binotatus) and Spotted Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus truncatus) can be comfortable in a 70 gallon, but you can't always take their word for it.

I catch your drift about the yellow tang as well. I just don't want something so common and I have seen them be pretty mean. I also had my eye on Blue Caribbean Tang (Acanthurus coeruleus). they are yellow as a juvi and the adults are blue. :)

thanks for all the replies. That pretty much rules out the purple tang then. I want something that will be peaceful but be attractive in my tank and go with the other stocklist that I have provided. I do plan on getting a big octopus skimmer to handle the large bioload, I just have to figure out which one would work best for my system.
