The foam back on my DT has been deteriorating for the past couple of years. I'm not sure what the primary cause of it is, but I'm thinking of redoing it in the next couple of months. FB has offered to lend me a tank to house my inhabitants while I make the changes.

I'm looking for ideas for the back. I liked the look of the foam when it was originally done. One of the drawbacks was that it took up some of the space in the tank. Another of course was that it didn't last as long as it should have. What are some favorite ideas out there for the back?

I like to have the back of the tank painted black. Some of the nicest tanks I have seen though have had the backs of their tanks tiled, making little ledges.

I'm seriously considering doing this soon since Paly morphs have taken over the back wall and give me a serious rash whenever I stick my hand in the tank.

I would strongly recommend using Plastic dip from home depot in particular. It splays on really nice and the best part is that once its done if you ever have problems (that I hope you don't) and your tank cracks it will hold the water long enough to do what ever you need to in order to save your wall, carpet, wood floor, or living friends! Trust me, I recently had my 45g crack on me and I was able to hook up a powerhead and drain out the tank without getting more than a soda cans worth of water on my floor. Its a bit more than regular paint but its worth the extra expense. You can cover about a 3 sq foot area with each can. And I would recommend the one from Home Depot in particular. I got some from Ace Hardware the second time around and after it dried it was textured and not smooth like the first time. Its not bad but I liked the smooth look over the textured.

Assuming! Your talking about the outside of the tank. I don't know if this is toxic but I personally wouldn't trust it with my fish or coral.







have you considered using real dry rock for the back. This is something I considered as well, This may solve your deteriorating problem...
