I have a 14g biocube that the ballasts started on fire and melted all the wires for the lighting. I got out of the hobby after the fire and I am really looking to start again. I still have my tank that was involved in the fire but im not sure what my cheapest option for lighting is. Any advice would be great I have been looking at the retro led kits but they are 150 + anyone have experience with making a led kit themselves?

That's an option or you can get one of the Chinese black box leds on eBay. I've had luck with then and so have others. Although some (not I ) have problems after a year or so
