150 Frame Changeout, is it safe?

The frame on my 150 cracked on me and I bought a new frame for the top of the tank. Do you think it is safe for me to empty about half the water and then replace the brace so there is not as much pressure?

Also where do I need to silicone the frame at? I was thinking just around the outer glass and possible the top of the glass would be fine. The fumes from the silicone should be safe for the tank right? I run carbon right now as well in case it is a problem.

I really do not want to completely empty the tank if possible.

Thanks,
Josh

I don't know, what the 'proper' way to install one is, but you would probably want to lower the water considerably. I personally would think it is safe and would probably run a bead of silicone around he bare rim then slip the frame on starting at one end and working it toward the other. Shouldn't be too mjuch of a problem. You can always put like a 'quick grip' clamp across the middle if you are going to have it frameless for any length of time. Honestly, if its already broke, most of he strain is right in the middle anyway so if its currently holding....should be easy
