o.k, I am about to set up my aga 16gall bow front. I have my titanium heater, a power head (rio180),probably a ac backfilter (not sure on size)I will stock with lr/ls. I have a96watt qaud(coralife).and thats it?. should I run a skimmer after tank has been up for a while or do I even need a skimmer on a 16 gall?and the tank has no top should I buy the glass top for the tank, my coralife light says for use on covered tanks(legality or function?) anyway I wide open for suggetion and improvments

thnx Fishfreak2407:)

Whether or not you need a protein skimmer depends on what you would like to house in your tank. Although a protein skimmer is not required it would benefit your tank greatly. If you stock the tank lightly as far as fish go then you could get away without a skimmer. If you do decide to use a skimmer you could go with a Coralife Super Skimmer as I've heard great things about them, and they are resonably priced. I would leave the tank open top, but if you must cover the tank then go for eggcrate.

I ran a 29 bow with an open top. I used a aquafuge for filtration, in the fuge I placed the heater and a small lee's counter current skimmer, some LR rubble and about an inch of LS. been running for about 3 years with no issues at all. take a look in my gallery for some shots.

i think with a tank so small with less forgiving water parameters, a skimmer wouldnt hurt.
