Let me start this thread with a little background history:
I have been into saltwater aquariums for just about three years now. I have had 7 tanks in that time, most of them in the 100+ range. My current tanks are a 180, a 150, and a 60.
Time and time again I've asked myself what makes a perfect system. I realize that the answer to such a question relies in what is being accomplished and also, to a large degree, different schools of thought. In essence however- for keeping what I consider to be higher end sps corals- I have come up with the answer that a crucial part of making a perfect system is to have extra filtration, extra lighting, extra supplements, extremely consistent stability, and perfect water chemistry.
In an attempt to make a perfect system, I have been collecting equipement for the past year that will be integrated into a 16g cube. However much of my equipement is far from being assembled and far from being configured.
My basic goals for this the physical elements of this system will be to
1) Have low maintenance required
2) Have it become modularized and space efficient(smallest possible footprint)
3) Have low noise output
4) Have all of the requirements for ideal water quality met as well
equipement that I have:
JBJ nano chiller
Aqua C Remora EV 120 protein skimmer
Lumen Max reflector + Blue Wave Ballast (I am thinking of running a 250W)
Calcium reactor+ tank/regulator (not sure what brand, but it should do the trick)
Reef Keeper Lite- basic setup with Pc4 and temp probe.
16g cube(built as all in one)
As you can see, with all of this equipement it will be a challenge to meet my goals. I have thought of configuring the setup so that it is built with 2x4's around the equipment, so then I can put in noise dampeners etc.
My basic plan is to have a single external pump run all of the equipement. the equipment(ideally) will be running in and out of the all in one black box at the end of the tank. And suggestions on quiet external pumps? I was thinking of BRS's pan-world pumps. Anyhow, I will post pics soon, and I would like input on what else I will need/ how to work this system).
Also, what about dampening pads? any suggestions?
Thank you!
