180 gallon internal weir design

So I recently got a 180 gallon tank for free that's not drilled. I drilled my own 40 gallon breeder and did an internal almost coast to coast overflow utilizing the bean animal design. Which is amazingly silent. Only thing I don't like is the big internal box. So on this new tank I want to do an internal weir with an external box that houses the plumbing. The question I have is can I use just a slightly angled piece of glass to do the internal weir rather than a full box? Say maybe have the weir stick out from the back glass only like 1 or 1.5" then it would gradually go back into the back wall, maybe 4" from the top of the weir(I'm just throwing out numbers here). So basically it would be a triangle shape rather than a square. Then drill a couple holes through to the external box.

Was thinking that would take up even less space than any kind of box would, and might cast less of a shadow inside the tank.

Anyone done this or have any thoughts on this?

That's a very similar plan to what i am mid way thru on a 90. I will let you know how it goes. Unless you will have it done before me.

You'll definitely beat me, I've gotta wait to set this up until I buy my own house next year. Bought my own business last year, so I've gotta file taxes once more in order to approved for a mortgage.. (which can't come fast enough! Lol) Definitely post some pictures and your thoughts about it once it's done!

Why not look at the several new kits that only require you to drill a couple of holes near the top for bulkheads? They come with their own small in-flow weir, teeth already cut, and an external box that handles all your plumbing.
