1st clam, a couple of questions.

I know some of you out there can tell if a clam is not getting enough light by the way it looks.

Do you think this clam has enough light? Tek light 4 x 54w. How can you tell?
Also, the foot is attached to the bottom of the tank. Whats the best way to move the clam?

how deep is the tank?
mantle exention seems to be normal, but judging by the color it looks like it could use a bit more light.
to move the clam you can try pointint a powerhead at the base to see if it detaches. looks like you'll be getting a mini sandstorm. if you don't want to do it this way you can gently pry it loose manually, or cut as far as away from the clam as possible.

I wouldn't worry too much about the color now. Mine colored up after the first month under similar lighting conditions. I think in fish stores and with the stress of being shipped they loose some coloration. Now that its in a nice tank and under steady conditions it should do great and regain some color. As far as moving him goes, thats always a problem with these. Mine was happily attached to a peice of LR for the first month I had him and then one day I had to turn off the lights in the middle of the day for something and he suddenly jumped off the rock and landed in the sand. Ever since then he just can't seem to find a spot he likes. If you leave him in the sand I bet he'd be fine as long as your tank is not too tall. You could even consider putting a small flat peice of rock under him so that he has something solid to attach to.

never pry on a clam to move/ remove it. you will rip the byssal glad way before a clam decided to drop it byssal threads
