1st reefer tank.

Hello everyone!!! I'm a newbie currently cycling my tank, a Red Sea reefer 170 and I'm on the 6th day using a red sea mature pro kit. I've been patiently reading and watching you tube about this hobby but I cant find or I might be having a hard time understanding the calculation of this Red Sea Coralline Gro daily usage. How do you calculate it? I'm currently on day 6 of the Mature Kit Pro of red sea and it stated there to calculate the daily dosage of the Coralline gro by dividing the KH on the 6th day by 4. Is there a formula that I can use on this? Do I have to keep it elevated up to 12.4dKH with a minimum low of 8.4 dKH? I currently have a 10dKH as I tested my water earlier (day 6) using API marine test kit.

I'd love to help, but honestly have no clue what that product is. If I were to offer my opinion, which I am, its not needed. I don't see the point of dumping tons of stuff in while the tank is cycling. Personally I'd do nothing but monitor to make sure the tank is cycling through ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. You have PLENTY of time to worry about getting coraline algae, then plenty of time to worry about it covering literally everything.

If dKH is 10, then I wouldn't add any type of alk supplement. That's on the high end already.

You most likely won't need to dose for alk or Ca until you have several corals, or you have lots of coralline algae.

I understand but its part of the day 6 procedure of that RedSea Mature pro kit that I'm using for starting up my first ever marine tank and I was wondering if somebody has done it here. But yeah,I dont think its that important other than the Ammonia - Nitrate cycle thing.

Thanks for the reply!
