2 Day Blackout vs Dino's

Some species of dino's can kill snails. You might keep an eye on them.

I've lost a few Astrea snails

+1 I have seen many snails work on this stuff only to be found on their back waiting for a crab to finish them off the next day. I have 2 snail graveyards in my tank. One in each front corner. Its kind of sad.:(

i have not lost one single snail.
perhaps mine is not the same type as the ones you guys have.
and yes i know some dinos are toxic and some are not.
some even kill fish

Its possible that your dino's are actually cyano. They can be very similar. I know sunny has used mb7 in his documented battle with dino's. He seemed to be successful with that strategy.

tried all of the above, kalk,no water changes which i think helps, uv ,lights out for days, the last resort before i tore tank down was to slowly raise the alk to 14-15dkh and kept it there until all signs of dino's were gone. did lose some sps and zoa's, but now everything else is coming back strong. good luck.

Thanks bmullikin, I would be quite scared to do that. Glad you had success with it. Seems there are a lot of ways to get rid of this stuff. I think that there is a huge surge in dino problems due to the carbon dosing craze. I wonder how the pellets do compared to vodka or zeo. I will not be using any of this stuff for a while until I see some measurable nitrates. As far as a link to sunnyx dino battle I googled it and found this http://www.rimlessreef.com/1/post/2009/04/dinoflagellates-and-the-treament-of.html .
Good luck and just an update, still no dino's except very trace amounts on a new rock and a couple areas of sand.

im not dosing carbon nor is the other ppl i know that have this, but then again perhaps it came in from someone who was.
