2 part in ATO

okay i have two totally separate top off buckets. they pump the same rate, empty 5 gals in the same amount of days etc. i am thinking about calculating how much part a and part B to but into their respective fresh water buckets and see how that dosing goes. i figure it should work, and i am tired of dosing but do not want to get dosing pumps. two top off buckets and pumps were way cheaper, and i don't have to deal with top off water but once a week.

Justin, I think you may be on to something here. I can't think of any reason it would not work other than needing to be stirred or shaken just like the two part in the gallon bottles that you use it from now. Oh wow I still need to get you some made up, you should have reminded me. Do you need both parts now? Sorry I totally forgot.

yeah i think the stirring may be the issue....good point. i don't need both parts, just the calcium i still have half a gal of alk. i still have some just not a lot so i haven't need to bug you about it.

side note. UTEP sucks and any aggie lovers are welcome to go to the tailgate tomorrow!!

you sure can as long as you bring the beer!!!

i was thinking about the stirring last night, and was thinking if it truely went into solution, this would not be a problem, as long as you mixed it up really well at the begining. the other problem i thought of was the fact that my out puts are really close to each other, typically not a problem but i only have a ten gal tank as a sump, and not sure if that would be enough dispersement before the two met. they are already dilluted, i mean i put 30 ml a day times 7 days, that is 210 ml Ca or Alk per top off per week. so i did a lot of 5th grade math to come up with .3107 ml of Ca and Alk per time (which is the time the top off is actually topping off). so that amount shouldn't matter that much as long as you are separating the outputs at least a little.

I know we top of with kalk in RO water and it is absorbed fine after mixing but I wonder if it would be the same for two part. Many additives are formulated specifically for saltwater. I would check on that first.

this is a quote from Randy on another thread. i am assuming that if you had two separate tubs like mine you would be fine.

You can add either part of the two part, but not both. If you go that route, I'd add alk this way and calcium manually. You might get away only adding calcium once every 2 or 3 days since it doesn't change as rapidly on a percentage basis, nor does it impact pH when added in a big slug.

the only problem i see in this, is that the amount of water topped off will change as the seasons change. i actually use more in the winter due to the dry air. but that shouldn't be a problem to calculate.
