20 gallon high sump

Hey wondering if anyone has designs for a DIY 20 gallon high sump? looking to start a small refugium to grow some macro algae and culture pods in.

I can't seem to find measurements for the baffles anywhere. Every thread I find ends up with everyone recommending a 20 gallon long instead but unfortunately I only have 24 inches in my sump side of cabinet, I do however have plenty of height clearance so reaching in shouldn't be an issue.

There are a few nice Eshopps for sale but I figured I would save a lot by DIY on a 20 high I have already and since I plan on upgrading in the near future I don't want to dump too much money into my current set up.

So I'm looking for probably at least 10 inch skimmer space for most skimmers, and then I'm lost. Unfortunately I am horrible with getting measurements right but I think if I can find the right blueprint I can take them to the glass shop and have them cut to size and I can install.

Any help greatly appreciated!

I was going to do a 20 high sump. But ended up getting a 20 long instead. But I know the width for my baffles were about 11 and 5/8s I believe since the 20l and high are same width figured you can use that. The problem I saw with the 24" tank is it was too short for what size refugium and the bubble trap setup I wanted.

I used a 20 high and i regret it for my set up. The vertical height adds difficulty cleaning skimmer, reaching inside the sump to get snail or clean, etc.

The dimensions/ spacing of the baffles depends on what you are putting in the sump.

I have a simple design due to the fact i rely on heavy skimming, as well as macro in my DTs. <a href="http://s1168.photobucket.com/user/Straight_Chaos/media/1914A22C-176C-4303-A3D4-9BA4B1A680BC-5400-0000026CECB595DB_zps83c3309d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r488/Straight_Chaos/1914A22C-176C-4303-A3D4-9BA4B1A680BC-5400-0000026CECB595DB_zps83c3309d.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 1914A22C-176C-4303-A3D4-9BA4B1A680BC-5400-0000026CECB595DB_zps83c3309d.jpg"/></a>

One set of three glass baffles for the simple bubble trap.

two are flush to the bottom and the height dependent on the water lever you wish to achieve,
I f you are bad at taking measurements take the whole tank to the glass shop, tell them what you want they will measure twice and cut once.

A baffle cut to big will never fit but one too small will fit, with the right amount of silicone.

the middle baffle that damns the water and forces flow to go low, is important.

I chose to put with only aprox 1in of space from bottom to increase velocity of water moving thru and not collect detritus, which has worked well for me.

I never thought of taking the whole thing to the glass shop. Maybe I will give that a try. I never hear good things about using the 20 high. There is a nice eshopps r100 on Craigslist but i don't want to spend the cash when I will most likely be ugrading tanks soon.

Don't have any right now I'm at work. Its 3 sections with 7 inch glass baffles. Does have drilled left side that would need to be blocked as it was part of another. System.

I have 20 gallon high, already to go as a sump. Super clean.

Asking $20 or some frags.

I want to thank Luisagos for letting me come by and pick up the sump, I will probably make some changes to the design but I already have most of the pieces I will need. Saved me a lot of time.

He also showed me the custom controller he built that will automatically do everything from turning equipment on and off, to starting a water change and alert him to changing levels of PH, temp and other values.

PLEASE start a thread to show this in detail Luis, I think you would have a ton of people on here that would like to try and emulate what you have!
