had an extra "nanocube" that was "cracked" (those two words are synonymous with each other)
so i used part of the sump and added it to the back wall of a 20 gallon, along with a sheet of 1/8" plexiglass that is fully siliconed to the rear wall and i hit with a 220 grit on an orbitable sander to give it a matte finish. this is nice as it protects the rear glass from rocks leaning on it and hides the hardware. 2 pumps and a heater reside in the sump along with a single sponge. one pump is a minijet 606 with its output at the bottom of the sump, the other is a hagen 301 with its output at the top exiting to a modified hydro flo. the intake is total and complete with this combination of size and intake. another 301 is on the far side of the tank modified so the body of the pump is 3/4 out of the water to help with any possible future heating issues. i like running a sponge to help clear the tank after husbandry and to catch the larger flowtillas, which of coarse is rinsed once a week with hot water. the AGA brand tank came with clear silicon which i dont like the look of after algae grows on it, so i stripped it thoroughly and replace the front 2 corners with "black" AGA brand silicone. this is a application where the "GE brand silicon 2" is not recommended at all. (see my research on this subject on an earlier post) the base and canopy was hand built to my specs from teak and oak woods. i had the inside of the canopy and the top of the base lined with teak for excellent resistance to salt creep. only a 65 watt pc 50/50 lighting is needed along with my suplimental LED array for all softies which grow like weeds with this combination. a modified sine wave uninteruptable power supply keeps a single powerhead going if the alternating current ceases. the contents of the 20 now house some sand and live rock and corals from a 12 gallon nanocube that was fun at first but i needed something that i could get my hands wet (so to speak) and thus as many, starts the long process to life long glee. wheres my wallet!
