2007 Officer nominations

Well, its rapidly approaching the time for nominating the officers for next year. Since the club has grown enormously over the last couple of years (we now are approaching 100 members) it is likely that we may have new people wanting to play a more active role in the club.

The positions that are available are as follows:

President
Vice President
Treasurer
Secretary

Each of these positions has its own set of tasks associated. If anyone wants to nominate themselves for one of these positions and wishes to know more about the tasks involved, I would be happy to answer PMs.

As an aside,

Once a set of officers are decided they will take over the direction and planning for the next 12 months. One of the tasks they will initially face will be ratification of the non-elected officers. These include the club librarian (currently this is done by Aimee VanWagoner-TimVs wife), the frag program directors and a new position I wish to establish which would be an educational officer.

This latter position will begin in 2007 and will have as its core task bringing together elements of education related to reefkeeping. This may be organizing an external speaker, organizing a talk or other such tasks. The ER will coordinate these ventures with the President of the club in 2007.

If anyone wishes to volunteer for that position, please feel free to PM me or just post your intention inside this thread.

I wish to step down as vice president and allow someone else the opportunity to serve in the club's leadership. I have a lot of big things coming up in the next year and I do not think I can devote the time it deserves.

I still do not know even half of the people in the club so I can't really suggest anybody for a position here, but just my opinion, I think paul has done an excellent job and wouldn't mind one little bit if you kept the office another year.

Has anyone given any thought to having maybe a position for a photographer? someone to take photo's of the meetings and whatnot, keep a COMAS scrapbook of sorts?

I sort of agree with Adam. Isn't it the secratary's job to keep notes of the meeting? Is there a chance that we can get a camera for the secretary if the new one can't provide one? I might be overstepping some boundaries here, but it was just thoughts being spoken out loud.

I'd suggest that's not the best plan - a photographer should be able to focus on taking pics while a secretary would be busy keeping meeting minutes, of sorts... Also, a secretary may not feel particulary photographically inclined...

I'd suggest that rather then a club photographer, have a photographic commitee, or something like that... It should be a group of folks that enjoy photography and will regularly be responsible amongst themselves of making sure that one of them shows up and takes some shots at each meeting and ESPECIALLY more important events, like the zoo tour, etc.

Also, POTM could be managed by the afore-mentioned comittee. (Not that I have any plans to back off from that)

captbunzo, that actually sound like a GREAT committee proposal.

Just curious on everyone's thoughts, but could/should a possible Photography Comittee be included into the Educational Officer or the Educational Officer be included into the Photography Comittee. Of course, this is all hypothetical.

I know I enjoy taking pictures at events (COMAS and non-COMAS), but I can't be at every meeting. And I suspect other shutterbugs have the same limitation...
