200DD - how many radion pros?

200DD is a 48x36x27. To cover the full tank, front to back, you'll probably need 4 of them.

Don't want to have to do that. If they are 30x30 in coverage. Wouldn't 2 be plenty. I know it will leave 6" in the back.

How about 2 x radion pro and 2 x 2bulb T5's in the rear to cover the 6 inches? I think 4 would be overkill.

2 will work if you mount them at least a foot high. It will still leave a lot of dark space. Adding a stunner strip in the front and back helps a lot.

It will be a nice mixed tank. If I need to run all acros up top I am good with that. Anything to not have to spend an extra $1400 for 2 extra lights.

It's not the idea you have to place any sps up top. The lights have plenty of power to punch down to the bottom of your tank.
You need to center the sps in the center 30" of the tank. The 3" in front and 3" in back will have less par than is recommended.
How much? I have no idea.
I do know that I have a gen 1 Radion on a 30" wide tank and have decent light on the ends of the tank, even though they say the gen 1's are for a
24" x 24" area.

If I had plans for a 48" x 36" foot print, I would go with 2 Pro's and mount them at about 12".

You'll be fine with 2 pros. The blue and white LEDs on the pros are 5watts each instead of 3w ea like the G2s. I Have 3 G2s over a 300DD at around 60% and they pretty much light the whole thing.

The direction you mount them does not impact the spread, it's a square distribution. I agree with mfinn tho, if it was me then I'd get two and just raise them up to 12" or so. They will have plenty of power to penetrate deep enough still. If you need more down the road you can always add to it. They will also have a 36" spread option available sometime in the future too.

My lights are 17" above the water. Which puts my SPS/LPSs about 20" Minimum away from them. All are doing great!!

Fantastic. I am not 100% how much room I'll have I pickup the tank/stand/hood tomorrow. I may cut out the top of the tank if I need to.

Do you have a picture of your setup?

If EcoTech says they have 24" of coverage front to back ( the narrow way), then with the 2 clusters which are 7" apart ( center to center ), then there has to be better spread going side to side, just from a physical stand point.
I would love to see actual par numbers to prove or disprove.

I'm very familiar with the DD series from Marineland; on the 200G DD- what do you plan to stock? Two (2) Pro fixtures would work well for most mixed reef aquariums.

Spa, lps, and some zoas. Do you think I am good? Where is the best place to mount the lighting, should I hang them normal or kick them sideways? SPS towards the top or middle height? Should I cut a hole in the top of the hood directly above the fan so when I mount them almost flush the fan has air flow?

Thanks for the help in advance, this is why I run your product! I enjoy the fact you don't try and over sell things!!

Ordered my MP 40's Saturday.

Thanks in advance,

Serenity,

2 Radions will work well on that aquarium regardless of how your orient them. I recommend positioning them in a way that provides even light distribution across the length of the tank in order to optimize coral health.
