I have a 210 that I'm getting ready to make into a reef tank. I'm currently in the planning stages and would like input from other reefers as too what equipment to start collecting. Specifically, I need input on skimmer, lighting, powerheads. What kind do you find wild the best for you (price is consideration but I'd rather spend a little more now and get something that will last). I know that I want to go with T5s for the lighting and I will be using a sump (55 gallon) so probably looking at an in sump protein skimmer. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Congrats on your new adventure, this is what I would personally recommend,

Skimmer: Super Reef Octopus XP-3000 or XP-5000 internal
Powerheads: 2 Vortech MP40's maybe in the future you can add a couple more.
Lights: For T5 maybe ATI? no experience with any T5 fixture.

Other will jump in to give their advice too.

Good luck and hope you start a thread.

I will definitely start a build threat one I get things going. This is actually goig to be a side project to go along with finishing the garage into the man cave. I have been looking at vortech pumps and ati lights but have not looked too much into reef octopus. Is there a reason why you would suggest them over a bubble king? Thanks for your advice!

Bubble Kings IMHO are top notch, but price is much higher than similar capacity Reef Octopus Skimmer, if I had the budget right now to get a Bubble King I would, though, my SRO XP-5000 works great.

It's all about your budget but yes Bubble King is ... the king :)

Right now I'm still only planning and saving, so I can dream BIG right now.... I'll look into the Octos and keep them on my short list anyway.

Anyone else have any input on things? I know from looking that 60" is the largest T5s go, what do you thing about using a 60" fixture on a 72" tank? Should I consider going with a pair of 36" units to get a better light coverage?

60" T5s are fine on a 72". There is a dropoff in light immediately beyond the fixture but you can still usually keep some SPS and definitely most lps/zoos.
