First of all I would like to thank this forum members for the incredible information that is shared. I've read this forum for many years and now I get to be apart of the "big boys" club
I've been a reef addict for over a decade so I'm excited.
My wife and I just bought a house and she gave me the go ahead to buy a 220g. The tank, stand, and hood should arrive in a month so I have a little bit of time to plan.
Were both educators so our budget is limited. One of the build goals is to keep expenses in-check so we can still feed our two teenagers
.
This is a different kind of build because I will not be adding any acropora and may not have any sps. Ok, maybe a monti or birdsnest but it will not be my focus. I love sps dominated tanks and I have ran them in the past. I want to try something different this time.
This new build will focus on moving corals with color. This will include LPS, euphyllia, colorful leathers, zoas, and dare I say it...pulsating xenia and green star polyps. When I have friends over almost every time they say their favorite coral in my tank is the pulsating xenia. The reefer purist in me just shakes his head but everyone loves it including my wife and kids. The xenia and GSP will be on their own islands to prevent spreading. I've also been inspired by this tank... http://www.advancedaquarist.com/blog/invasive-corals-never-looked-so-lovely
Here is my equipment list. Again, I'm trying to keep pricing within our budget and going back to the KISS rule.
Skimmer: Aquamaxx Cone S Q3
Sump: DIY-not sure-open for ideas
Media: I have a BRS duo and may just use it for carbon?
Return: Jebao DC 1200
Lights: 3 Kessil A350W (I already have 2), 2 or 4 ATI B+ in retro kit
Wm: 2 Jabao wp-8 (I already have 2) don't need crazy flow
I'm open for any ideas or suggestions.
