I have recently treated my display tank with a 24 hour dose of interceptor with positive results. Even though this is much longer then the recommended application;there were no negative effects to my Corals, clams or fish with 1 1/2 times the standard dosage used. I would like to note that I have a bare bottom tank with no hermit crabs or shrimp. After 24 hours there were still some amphipods alive. The pods are routinely harvested from inside my filter socks, and some were D.O.A, but a good amount survived. I did not have a large amount of red bugs and they were only spotted when I decided to take a closer look using a 30 X Jewelers Loupe, an item I recommend using for this task..
I would like to credit Dustin Dorton, for whose thread was the impetus for this treatment, as well as an article by Eric Borneman who highlighted a more extensive time period of 12 hours. I was not able to remove my SPS Corals to a quarantined tank, so the dosage was applied directly to my 450 gallon SPS tank .As a result of reading the original 6 hour treatment in which a second application was dosed the next day. I felt that even after a water change and carbon use, there certainly is some interceptor left in the treatment tank on the second day. So I decided to just leave the interceptor in, and not do a water change for 24 hours. The following day I did do about a 20% water change and turned on the skimmer. I waited a couple of days and set up the carbon canister again. I will be dosing a second and third treatment at the start of week two and week three. I have examined my corals using the Jewelers loupe and have not spotted any at this time.
This has been my experience with interceptor and I would like to know if others have also tried a longer dosage period.
