24 hour Red Bug treatment

I have recently treated my display tank with a 24 hour dose of interceptor with positive results. Even though this is much longer then the recommended application;there were no negative effects to my Corals, clams or fish with 1 1/2 times the standard dosage used. I would like to note that I have a bare bottom tank with no hermit crabs or shrimp. After 24 hours there were still some amphipods alive. The pods are routinely harvested from inside my filter socks, and some were D.O.A, but a good amount survived. I did not have a large amount of red bugs and they were only spotted when I decided to take a closer look using a 30 X Jewelers Loupe, an item I recommend using for this task..
I would like to credit Dustin Dorton, for whose thread was the impetus for this treatment, as well as an article by Eric Borneman who highlighted a more extensive time period of 12 hours. I was not able to remove my SPS Corals to a quarantined tank, so the dosage was applied directly to my 450 gallon SPS tank .As a result of reading the original 6 hour treatment in which a second application was dosed the next day. I felt that even after a water change and carbon use, there certainly is some interceptor left in the treatment tank on the second day. So I decided to just leave the interceptor in, and not do a water change for 24 hours. The following day I did do about a 20% water change and turned on the skimmer. I waited a couple of days and set up the carbon canister again. I will be dosing a second and third treatment at the start of week two and week three. I have examined my corals using the Jewelers loupe and have not spotted any at this time.
This has been my experience with interceptor and I would like to know if others have also tried a longer dosage period.

I also dosed 24 hours at a time. I ended up dosing three times every 7 days even though all signs of the bugs were gone during the first treatment. I was initially going to dose .15 mg of pill weight but ended up splitting the pill into thirds and using each third for each treatment.

No ill results other than the expected loss of my cleaner shrimp and the rotten hitchhiker crab that kept killing all my snails. :D I have a mandarin and he's still finding plenty of food so I would also confirm the majority of my good pod population survived just fine.

The whole process is definately intimidating initially but after the first treatment I didn't even hesitate with the 2nd or 3rd as I wanted to make sure Murphy's law didn't come back to bite me w/ the bugs showing up again later.

Thank You, that is what I wanted to hear. I will continue with 24 hr dosages the next two applications also. I was pleased to see some pods left also. In time they will surely multiply.:)

As an update the second and third dosages were administered at the two week and three week mark. The same dosage was applied for 24 hours again, with no visible negative effects.
Overall it has been a straight forward procedure which has worked very well.

Hey Tony, I went with the 24hr dose with great results. I plan on 2 more doses a week apart just to be safe. Will let you know how it goes. Mike
