240 acrylic tank Overflow box install

I am trying to install an overflow box into my clarity plus acrylic tank. The tank didn't currently have the overflow box in it. I drilled 2 holes for 1" bulkheads in the end that will be going up against the wall. I purchased a 1800gph acrylic overflow off of ebay. I want to put the overflow box in up against the top piece of acrylic to make it rigid and sturdy. My question is this. Is it safe to cut a square or even a circle in the top of the acrylic support just big enough to get my hand in to do overflow maintenance with out screwing up the structural integrity of the tank?

if you post a picture of the tank/bracing and give us the basic dimensions of the bracing we will be able to help you out better.

Ok so the lit dimensions are 24x96.
There are 3 holes evenly spaced across the length. The cutouts are measured 9x12 they are spaced every 7.5 inches (i.e. 7.5 solid then 9x12 hole and so on) The lid is 3/8" thick with the side being 1/2 thick. There are 2 rectangles cut on the 8' side both measuring 1.75" x 14.5. They are 3/8" away from the seam where the lid is bonded to the side panels. I hope the pictures help explain the tank lid support system. I am wanting to put in an overflow on the end to make the tank viewable from 3 sides. The tank is going to be used as a room divider. I want to cut out either a rounded corner square or a 3-4" circle to access the bulkheads to do PM's on them. If putting a hole in the lid is not an option I am open to suggestions as to what I can do to do this tank so I can use a sump with it.
Thanks in advance.
Not sure why the pictures were flipped sideways. They were taken with my phone. I am sorry I am not sure how to rotate them right side up.
