hi guys...i need some info...i just bough the aquapod and all the stuff i need..was wondering, how i mix the water with salt for the tank? should i do it in the tank the mix or separate? if separate how much water and salt...etc.etc..

for the first time you fill the tank with saltwater you can mix it in the tank but when you do water changes you gott do them outside of the tank( separate container )
never add salt directly to the tank
as for the salt amount it should say on the box or bag
what kind of salt is it?
i use instant ocean and 1.5 pounds makes 5 gallons of saltwater
HTH good luck

Either buy an RO/DI unit or buy Distilled water from the store. It cannot be tap water or spring water. Your LFS should sell premixed saltwater but there is some danger in that, some might not have 0 TDS water (Total Dissolved Solids - The crap you don't want in your water) or the salinity might be off from batch to batch.

I would invest in a RO/DI unit from a sponsor on here (Filter Guys have great affordable units). Then you can mix your own saltwater and have more control over the process.

yea,ill do that, but for now ,what can i do... instant ocean instructions says that its ok to use BIO-Coat with tap water, have u hear before any problems with that?

I know there was a guy in my local fish club forum that for quite a while made tap water, used the dechlorinator, let it sit for a day, make the saltwater and add a powerhead to it and keep the powerhead going for a day or 2 without problems.

If you want to try that I don't see anything wrong with it to start your tank (the first 24 gallons). After that though I'd just get 3 gallons a week from the store (maybe keep a few extra's around for RO topoff due to evaporation).

ok,i just put some distilled water, add some salt and add sand...right now its all cloudy... i put 17g. in tank and add 8 1/2 cups of salt like the box says 1 cup per 2gs ... gravity 1.022...should i add more salt or wait till sand its settle?
