24g aquapod

hey everyone, my gf's parents just gave me there 24g aquapod. It comes w/ 2 sponges, 4 bio balls, and a bag of ceramic biomedia. Im planning on removing the bio balls and the ceramic media. Im thinking of keeping a sponge (should i keep both?) and possibly shaving it down a little bit so i can fit a media bag of activated carbon in front of it to help out w/ more filtration. (or should i remove the sponges all together and just go w/ carbon bags and LS/LR rubble w/ cheato?)

There are only two compartments in back, w/ 2 spaces..one at the bottom and one at the middle area to let water flow from chamber 1 to chamber 2.
In the first chamber Im going to be adding LS and LR rubble, as well as filter floss at the bottom so nothing can be sucked into the pump.

it currently has i believe a 290 gph pump. the flow does not seem strong enough though and i am going to upgrade it.

does this sound like it will be enough? any other ideas/suggestions? id love to here them, thanks alot

Sounds like you got everything figured out. If you keep the sponge just remember to rinse it very good every week, same with the floss, replace it weekly as well.

I have a nanocube and replaced the stock pump with a MaxiJet 1200.

Is this your first SW tank?

no its not my first...i had a fish only tank for a little while in a 55g but it was nothing special. This will be my first SW tank that im going to try to go corals and polyps b/c Ill have the lighting for it.

If i get rid of the sponge all together...would just the carbon be enough? I want something that will trap some debris if something lands in the tank or something so its not floating around...should i leave the sponge for that reason?

Went to the LFS today and got 10lbs of live rock, and a media bag.

Looking into the back of the tank it seems like the water in the left chamber is not moving around very well...should i be worried about this? can i get a small powerhead or an airstone in there to help fix the problem?

I'll get pics up as soon as I can
