Hi--quick question wanted to run it by all of you. When I started my 29 gallon reef tank I did it per the suggestions of GARG (GARF.ORG) with the aragnite rock and the GARF grunge--and periodically I added more grunge--the problem is now I have a 4-5 inch substrate--I fear taking some of this grunge out as the system is seemily thriving and anything I would take out would more than likely be the most beneficial stuff on the top layer--has anyone encountered this same problem? cam you fathom any problems with keeping it at this level?

Your sand beds to deep and you wondering if its safe to remove some? Is that the question. Or if its a problem to leave it the way it is?

give the sand a good mix, and then remove some. My sandbed is less than an inch deep. I just have it for the look more than anything else :D

How much rock do you have? If the sand bed is your main bio filter you might have a problem. If you have alot of rock youll be fine removing some sand. What i would do is remove small amounts from different sections at a time. Dont mess up to much at one time. Leaving that much sand in the tank (if you choose to go that way) i dont see causeing any real problems either.
