30 gal RedSea nano xl mangrove reef lagoon

I sold everything 7 years ago and was done….haha! We always come back. Starting first steps: the rock, growing mangroves, and ordering stuff. Still waiting on tank and expect mid April to add first fish. Tank is a 33 gallon RedSea nano all self contained no sump. Apex controlled, dosing kalk and small weekly water changes is my plan. The mangrove will have its own light for growth. Looking forward to this!

Tank is going well. Lost 2 clowns, 1 in qt and 1 in dt. Unfortunately, not sure if a parasite made it though qt? So waiting till June 2 for fish. Tank is cycled and added a few corals, shrimp, LT anemone, etc. The mangroves leaves fell off, however the roots are growing well, so I’m optimistic. Equipment is all installed and running well and parameters are solid for a new tank.

Sorry about the losses of the clowns. Sounds like you’re approaching it right in not rushing things.

Couple of new pics. Everything good, Mangrove Tree holding steady, not really growing much. During the last WC I collected all the detritus and buried it around the roots and up the duration and intensity of the Mangrove Light. Tank has unreadable nutrients, so that could be why growth is so slow. Added an AI Nero3 for more variation on flow.

Have reached the 1 year mark with my Mangrove Reef. Many changes and success after getting serious about mangroves. In September I realized my mangroves were dying and I needed a different approach besides placing mangroves in the rock and hoping for “the best”. The solution was a 16 gal tank plumbed into the main display with organic potting soil capped with gravel. This provides everything the mangroves need and can still maintained ocean type parameters including undetectable no3 and po4 ~.02. Here are some images from September during build out and now.
