Hi RC,

I just finished setting up my 30 gallon nano reef tank.

My cycle is finished and I currently have two Bullethole Clownfish living happily with a cleaner shrimp and 3 peppermint shrimps as well.

The equipment I'm using is a Tunze 9001 Nano Protein Skimmer, Tunze nano ATO, I have a generic thermometer and a heater in the tank as well, I am also working with the Kessil 360 and an Mp10wES

What else is safe for me to add? I dont want the clowns to bully another fish and kill it. Im thinking of adding a new guy in about a week and a half so I dont increase the bioload too much. I'm also thinking of doing a NEM in the future.

The clowns will likely see the entire tank as their domain and not readily accept intruders. Some types of fish seem to fly under the radar as far as clowns go. Most blennies don't seem to matter to clown fish, they just ignore them. A flasher wrasse would be quick enough to avoid the clowns so one of those might also work.

In my 29 I have 2 clowns (bullies for sure), a lawnmower blenney, green canary blenny, Royal Gramma, and a Rose Goby. They are all very good with each other. I would go for some high swimmers or low stuff like gobies and blennies. My experience, the clowns seem to avoid them.

My 30g I have two clowns that were first inhabitants of my tank then I added a pj cardinal, royal gramma and twin spot wrasse all living happy. Depending on anemone I had to remove mine cus the arms were stinging all my corals news grow very quickly so just an FYI

I've got a yellow watchman goby, a royal gramma, and a firefish. Other than some occasional posturing they are getting along just fine. I'll be getting a pair of clowns in a couple of weeks, but deliberately planned for them to be the last additions since they're likely to be the most aggressive :)

i was afraid that getting the pair would really limit what i could add. my LFS told me that I could probably pair up a pistol shrimp with a goby? Ive had gobies.. and theyve all jumped out the top. I do not plan on getting a top for my tank.

If you are worried about cost, I built my net cover for ~$20. I got the 1/4" clear screen from BRS and then the rest of the screen parts at Home Depot. Took 15 minutes to build.

If you are worried about light penetration, I have the Kessil 360 also, and there is no loss of light at all. I can move the screen all around the path of the light, and nothing changes.
