36" T5 Fixture Over 75 for SPS

fraggin corals

I have an Aquatinics 36" TX5 fixture with new ATI lamps that I was using over a 40 breeder sps tank. I have decided while in the initial phases of setting up that the 40 is just a bit too small for me so I have found a great deal on a 75 set up. Would the shorter fixture be enough to do a full sps reef on the 75, if I place the corals directly under the fixture?

how many t5's

No, it will not.. I have a Par meter and able to measure it. The two ends got really low par compare to the middle.. So with a 3' fixture on a 4' tank makes it even worst. You won't be able to keep all the sps at the end like you mentioned in your original post

If its an 8 bulb he'll be fine

For a standard 75 gallons tank, a 6 bulbs 54watts Sunpower would be a perfect match. 8 bulbs would be a waste because alot of light will be spilled onto the front and the back. and the fixture is 17.5" wide while the tank is 18" wide.

Your light is just fine with that tank. But don't expect to grow sps anywhere on the 2 ends and got the same result. you can grow sps in the middle and lps on the two ends. that would works out just fine.

I have decided to get the 6 lamp 48" ATI sunpower. Rather spend the money upfront and get what will work rather then spend time and money making something else work. Thanks for the advice!

Actually just bought a brand new 65 tank rather then the 75. The 65 fit into the space better and I prefer the look over the standard 75. And the fixture I already have is 36" as is the tank.
