40 Gallon breeder-stocking list.

I recently got my 40 gallon breeder setup rock was pre-cycled in rubbermaid. Getting the CUC this week.

Filtration:

NWB Reef Octopus-100 protein skimmer
60 pounds of live-rock

Fish list:

1x Copper-band butterfly fish(plan on adding in about 3-6 months)
1x Ocellaris clownfish
1x Gobie of some type. looking for a burrowing gobie. Any recommendations would be great.'
1x Wrasse haven't really look much into it, but I would love a wrasse. Also any recommendations would be great, I don't want a 6-line or a canary though. Something purple/red/green

Tell me what you guys think.

Looks good to me! I don't know much about the Copperband Butterfly... but otherwise, the stocking list that I plan on having for my 40B is similar.
 
Do you plan on having coral for FO? That makes a difference on what wrasse you get. Also, depending on what inverts (if any) you have the copper banded might give you a hard time. More info setup please.

Its going to be a mixed reef.

I've done my research on the copper-band I'm aware of the risks as far as corals and invertebrates go. The only thing I'm worried about is the size of the tank as the fish matures.

I got two tunze 6015's and I am going to add a 6025. mag 3.5 for return pump.

Also gonna start running GFO, and Carbon in probably another couple of months.

1x Copper-band butterfly fish(plan on adding in about 3-6 months) I would wait till at least 6 month and also make sure he eats at the lfs or online otherwise they would starve and die. You can find a small one that would last you around 2 years.
1x Ocellaris clownfish = Good since its passive.
1x Gobie of some type. looking for a burrowing gobie. Any recommendations would be great.' Becarefull cuz i got a YLW watchman gobie after i got my small 6 line and he beat him hard. so watch out.

Get 1 or 2 Purple/orange firefish they are cool, passive and colorful.

Just a suggestion from what i have experienced so far.
 
I think 2 power head is enough if placed right. Third one i think would be too much but i like to hear what others think.
 
@ Alex482455: 2 years would be great for me. Going off too college in about two years.
I kinda wanted to avoid the yellow corris wrasse, along with the six line wrasse.
I like the firefish? Are they jumpers? Also are wrasses jumpers? I have an open top and I would love to keep it that way. probably isn't an option though.
 
IMO Alex is pretty much on it. As far as the wrasse goes you have a couple of options. I for one like the White Banded Possum Wrasse, but the Yellow Corris is nice too. I would also go with a pair of clowns, but that might just be me.
 
As the owner of a 40 breeder, there is no way I would put a copperband butterfly in there, the tank just isn't big enough for one.
 
Wrasse jumping or firefly fish is all about the tank environment. Enough hiding places they will never think of jumping out cuz that would not be an option. I have a lid for my tank but my fire fish has always been in the lower part of the tank. Yeah if we look at the numbers you shouldn't but there are really small butterfly fishes out there which u can get. I don't think u will have problem with 2 wrasse, specially with Ylw corris.

IMO/E, they will jump, no matter how many hiding spots there are -- it is there nature to do that when frightened.

Small butterflies grow into ones that won't fit into a 40 breeder.
 
I would drop the copperband as well.

I would add a mate for your clown, pick up a shrimp goby pair, and add maybe a flame or coral beauty?

I don't think you could go wrong with two wrasses either, that would give you a lot of action for a tank that size. Like said, just make sure you have a canopy or some sort of cover. I have seen some ultrathin profile exterior screen for $ homes that would work if you went with a couple of wrasses.

+1 to all of this. All fish can jump and some species are just incredibly prone to jumping. Wrasses, dartfish, more open water swimming blennies (fang blennies, midas, etc.) all love to jump.

I keep all my tanks understocked (like 1-5 fish per tank) and covered. So aggression and stress are at an absolute minimum and there is obviously lots of available rockwork and open water with fewer fish. I still have fish bouncing off the lids when they get spooked or decide it's a great time to jump for whatever reason.

I'm not suggesting my practices are the best by any means. Personally, I get attached to my fish and having lost one due to jumping in the past (even with a cover) it's not something I would want to repeat. IMO I would avoid the fish I listed above if you are set on keeping an open top.
 
Wow guys thanks for all the responds. Well I think I'm gonna drop the copper-band. I did pick up a carpenter's fairy wrasse today, he's gorgeous. Thanks for the responds. I'm going to get a lid on the tank ASAP. I have a hanging fixture. Sooo no canopy. :/

What is the thin screen your talking about? When I google search all I get is flat screen TV's? ;p

This is incorrect. My tank has a billion caves and I hear my yellow coris bounce of the glass top with some regularity.
