Welcome aboard. Now starts the slew of questions whose answers will lead to more questions. How long has the tank been up? What sort of filter are you running? As far as for corals, what type of lights do you have?

In general, everything I've learned in my short time in the hobby is that everything takes a painful amount of time. I had my first tank up with live rock, live sand, and a small Arsenal of beneficial bacterial 'instant cycles'. I was a little over a month in before the tank cycled and 'stabilized' enough to add fish. Read up on quarantining fish and the potential cost of not doing so. Take it slow, you'll appreciate it more in the end.

That being said, zoas are beautiful and easy. Leathers, Kenya trees, and buttons are a good starter. If you want your tank overrun, green star polyp (gsp) and xenias will do that for you. Just remember that these are animals and are completely depending on you to survive. Have fun!

I would reccomend a total of 3-5 fish in a 40 depending on filtration. Potters angelfish definetly need a much larger tank than a 40 gallon. Some fish that would be suitable for a tank of your size would be firefish, gobies, blennies, etc.

I have 7 fish in my 40b without issues. My nitrates and phosphates are never really out of line and they are kept where I want them with a 10% weekly WC. Nitrates will tell you if you have a good enough bacteria system or not in getting rid of the waste the fish produce.

My fish list is:
Cherub Angel (if you get one get it last, they can be aggressive)
Midas Blenny
Royal Gramma
Yellow Candy Hog Fish
McCosker's wrasse
pair Mocha Ocellaris clowns

For bio filter I have about 40lbs of LR in my DT and another 30lbs or so in my sump. I also have a skimmer that can handle 80 gals or so system. I also have Chaeto in my sump. All of this is essential to keeping your nitrates and phosphates down with a heavy fish load and heavy feeding schedule.

I also have quite a few corals, mostly LPS :D I will be taking a lot of new pictures this week of my fish and corals as I've got a new camera to play with and will get the colors right.

Here is a link to my tank.
