Awfully tall...but I'm sure it won't budge with all the weight that will be on top.

You must have some long monkey arms to reach the bottom of the tank or must intend on putting your swimming shorts on and getting into it! :D

Well, I have got the stand stained, moved into the room and tank on top filled for weight testing and closed loop test operation. Sorry its been a while but I will post the progress pics in a couple days.

Monkey arms? Try Plastic Man! Yes its tall, but this is to provide a perfect viewing height without bending down. The inside of the stand is anchored to studs at the sides. Also I have a nice step ladder accessible for placement/ cleaning, Im 6'1", but no way am I able to reach the bottom of the tank as its final height is right around 71" tall!

Well, still waiting for the money alloted to purchase the lighting, which will eventually be the Soleset HQI 2 x 250w with T5. Since they are $1,399.99, it hasnt been easy convincing the wife to go for them. I do have pictures but havent gotten them on here yet. I now have the sump installed/ partitioned with the acrylic 6" dia. to 4" neck DIY skimmer at 36" tall just about completed. I will place the pictures hopefully this weekend to let you all see them. Its has been a long slow road with a honeydo' list a mile long from the wife, so I apaologize.

If you can build a stand you can build a hood. Just get some retro kits and put in your own lights for much cheaper.

Well, if one has the means to get the lights, what would be the better route to take? Would there be any greater benefit to purchasing the Soleset HQI 2 x 250w with T5 even though I will be covering the fixture with the canopy top closure? I have read the reviews on the product and they are all thumbs up. Also, other threads have convinced me to go with what you want now vs. having to tinker with the retro with additions later on?

wow, thats looks absolutely awesome. i really like the color of the stain you chose.
the lights look great. what others were trying to say earlier is that you can buy retrofit kits. this means you can buy reflector, bulb, ballast, socket and wire them yourself for alot cheaper. you can get the exact same quality as a pre assembled lighting assembly. for me, fixtures are for open top smaller tanks. when you have a large tank with a canopy, you can use retros and get the same quality for alot less. the only downside is they arent as attractive, but like i said, it doesnt really matter when you have a canopy. but reguardless the lights look great and if your happy with them, no biggy.
also i was wondering what you planned to do with the top. i can see that the setup lies flush with the wall but theres a gap at the top. do you plan to drywall that in?
keep the pics coming.

moore_rb- thanks, I have been watching the progression of yours as well. I cant believe the power from your eductors. Nice construction BTW on your tank as well. You have some great acrylic skills.

Well, I was going to either leave it open or build a louvered face panel to let the air circulation from the fan still travel from the top down the back.... but its still being pondered as I am planning to add a chiller here real soon. The temp never bumps over 81, but I would like it to maintain at 79 and get rid of the humidity in the room.

Took some more pictures tonight that I thought I'd share. A couple new additions to the tank are live rock, a Sohal tang, two more peppermint shrimp (3 total), a long spined urchin, a spotted goby and the rest of my softies from the 55 gal.
