500-600lbs. Liverock FS - soon

Over the next 3 weeks I will have roughly 500-600 lbs. of live rock available for sale. Most of it is premium rock I had special ordered for size and shape. I also have a small amount that I would call base rock. The majority of it weight-wise is very large pieces in the 20-40lb. range. With that said, I have probably 100-200 lbs. of 15lb. and smaller pieces. Everything exposed to light has a very thick coraline covering. The rock not currently exposed to light, is well seeded to fill in with coraline quickly.

I currently have access to all of it but I am cycling it through a tank with a racoon butterfly to remove any stray majanos…man does it do a bang-up job at that.

I have probably 100 lbs. currently ready…with more added daily. I am asking $4.50/lb. for the premium and large pieces, $3/lb for the more normal stuff and $1/lb for various small pieces and coral heads (good for seeding).

Some of the pieces I will have are massive. If you've never aquascaped with huge pieces, you don't know what you are missing…they don't move…no more piling and stacking…and falling rock...and crushed coral. If you are setting up a tank or simply want to swap out for some killer rock, now is the time. This stuff would bring at least twice this price at an LFS.

PM me if you have interest. I'll add pics soon.

Would it be possible to get 50 lbs of small or rubble to seed me new tank. My carib sea rocks are almost white. Hopefully the $1 a lb is covered in coralline and would be a good seed. Thanks...Rick

There may be some limited coraline coverage but not a ton for $1/lb. Whether it is enough to seed coraline, I can't say with certainty…my comments were geared towards seeding with bacteria, critters, etc..

Do you think that a couple of premium pieces, maybe $50 or $60 worth would be good for scraping and adding to 150 lbs of new plain rock? Seeding with critters is something else I need to work on. I appreciate your input. Thanks....Rick

Yep, I don't even think you'd need to scrape, just put it on top or mix it in and let nature take its course. Obviously the more you add, the quicker it will happen but some of this stuff has very, very thick coraline. Others here may have different experiences but I've found that scraping works some times…and not others. If coraline is your focus, having your parameters (calcium, stronium) in line goes a long way as well.

Thanks for the advice. I would like to reserve about $60 worth and the heavier the coralline the better. I will mix it in with my white rocks. I am waiting on many corals until I have the water and rocks right. Rick

Hey Norm,

This may be inconvienient at the momment, but do you have any pics of the larger pieces? I could use a couple in my new tank.

Thanks!

Here is a picture of the first batch. I will be adding to it daily. This is mostly the premium ($4.50) stuff but there is some $3 mixed in. Not all of it has this much coraline but a lot of it does...and what doesn't is well seeded. Every time I move rock around exposing new areas, it gets completely covered within a few weeks. This is primo stuff.

For scale, this is a 150 gallon Rubbermaid sump and the white drain is 4".

icu2, I only have one big piece (guessing like 20-25 lbs.) out so far. It is in the 2nd photo...12"x24"x4" or so. I'll be pulling more big pieces out this weekend.

I am looking for a 10 to 15# piece very porous and could care less about any coralline and am not in a huge hurry either

Norm, how long to you think you'll be undertaking this process. I like Rick am interested in some of the $3 normal stuff and a larger portion of the $1 rock. Unfortunately, I am probably about 4-5 weeks from filling my tank. Any chance you'll have any left at that time?

I have had a run on the small and cheaper rock. I don't want to over-commit so I will post a status on that rock this weekend after some people pick up. I have a ton of the premium stuff. For the price difference, it can really make or break the appearance of a tank. You won't often find this quality of rock at this price. Some pieces are huge but more normal sizes also. Thanks.

I'll have a good supply of the premium $4.50/lb stuff ready by the weekend, including a number of large, unique shaped pieces. A good bit of it is Oozing with coraline.

I've sold a good bit but adding more daily. Several hundred lbs. of the premium stuff left...killer rock.

Norm, I should just say how nice this rock is! And it's not even in my tank yet! Thanks for all you've done!

Thanks for the Rock Norm! Can't wait to get my build done to get it in the new tank. It was a pleasure meeting you and seeing your Tank. Absolutely beautiful.

For anybody needing rock, Norm definitely has many many awesome large pieces left!
