54g corner nem recommendations

In the early phases of stocking the tank, so a long way off from adding a nem, but want to start planning out the stock list.

I'd like to have a nem that is in the sand bed or near the bottom or the rock and will host (hopefully) a pair of percs.

Tank details
54g corner
30-35g water volume sump with fuge
shallow sand bed (1/2")
radion xr30 light

From what I've read, bubble tips are most likely going to sit high and may run around the tank, making it hard to add anything else?

The carpets need more bottom area and a deep sand bed? I really like the haddoni. Is it a no go? Note: realize these take lots of care and can't be added until tank is very mature/stable, just want to see if the tank set-up precludes them as an option some day.

Are H. cripsa and M. doreensis options? It sounds like they will sit on the sand bed if the light is good enough, but is that true with a shallow sand bed.

Anything else I should be considering?

Sorry for the stream of questions, just don't want to do anything stupid!

They'll all wedge between the rock-work and shallow sand bed.

S. haddoni will be happier with a DSB along with possibly (probably), being less likely wander then without.

Crispa would be a fine choice, but they actually prefer the liverock to the sandbed, though sometimes bury into the sand and attache to the bottom. However, percs are hit or miss with crispa. In some reference guides crispa is listed as a natural host for percs, but I think that is likely a mistake. I have looked at lots of vids of crispas in the wild and have yet to see a perc in a crispa, naturally. Though it definitely happens in aquaria. Haddoni would work in that size tank, however it would take up a large amount of real estate and they are know fish eaters. Percs aren't naturally found with haddoni either. Gigantea is a natural host for percs as is magnifica, however, as you're probably aware, getting a healthy one from the get-go is difficult and a major factor in the success of these species in our tanks.

My choices in Philly may be limited, so might have to just get healthiest I can find regardless of the species...

where have you been shopping?

For anemones -

Natural Pets Plus (Rt 202 and Germantown Pike), gets everything from S. mertinsii to Blue S. haddoni, would likely need to request a red one. S. gigantea in Blue, Green, Purple, H. magnifica, LTA's all colors, H. crispa and H. malu. Including some oddballs. Get on their mailing list.

ASR in Frazier has a local connection for tank propagated H. magnifica clones and also (R)BTA clones. Mike could probably special order whatever you want, he doesn't have the space to bring in anemones, more a coral specialty store. Check their facebook page for stock updates.

Petco by the Willow Grove Mall is good for the everyday nems. They get H. crispa, H. malu, green and brown LTA's, BTA's, and S. haddoni carpets, just no red or blues. Also check the Wynnewood (270 E. Lancaster Ave), location.

That Fish Place in Lancaster isn't too far away, however I'd call first, check livestock.

There are a few others just that I haven't been to them at all or in years so can't say whats what. - The Hidden Reef was a favorite before they moved from Rt 63 and the Roosevelt Blvd due to a fire. Used to stop by on a regular basis. The new location is out of range of anywhere I travel, only been there a handful of times since.

Decide on a species then take your time and try to find a healthy one.

All of my H. crispa's liked to wedge between rock and sand. They do inhabit both in the wild.
Sand for H. malu (often confused with H. crispa).

Thanks Marc. ASR is very close. Will definitely talk to Mike.

Natural Pets Plus is also pretty close, didn't know they had a mailing list but will get on the list. Really haven't been there since it changed hands. Sounds like they're getting higher end live stock now.
