55 Gallon or 40 Breeder?

40 breeder. The 55's are so narrow front to back that it makes it really hard to get a good rock structure that also gives you room for corals to grow out.

40 Gal breeder. better light penetration and aquascaping room.

Search on here, there are some amazing set-ups and build threads for both, so you'll figure out your preference after viewing them.

Ive had a 55 for the past 6 years and I HATE, let me emphasize, HATE that tank. The dimensions are horrible and aquascaping is nearly impossible. I just set up a 40b for a dwarf lionfish and the dimensions are amazing. My buddy who runs a 90 even commented on how awesome the tank looks. Go for the 40b IMO

40 breeder for sure. the 55 gallon just substitutes the width for height and thats just cramped. i wanted a 55 but went 75 for the front to back space

Definitely go with the 40 breeder. The dimensions are much more appealing to me and I don't think you can drill a 55 gallon standard tank either.

I'm going to be the lone sailor and stand up for the 55. I liked having the corals closer for viewing. You'll also have more water volume. I've since gotten a 90 instead of a 120, and the only thing I wish I had is more length. I'm plenty happy with the width. It is all up the person, after all they're the ones looking at the tank every day.
