i am new to this and am going to be setting up a 55g FOWLR tank. i was hoping to get a snowflake eel. and then leave the rest up to you guys on which fish to put in there. if the eel wont work let me know i was really hopeing to get one of them in there tho. also which live rock. thanks all!

ok i was wondering how much it will cost to get my 55g up and running i dont wanna ask my local store cuz im guessing they are over priced and giving me stuff i dont really need. so what i plan to have in the tank is. snowflake eel, blue tang, and a clown tang. any ideas? how much live rock? how much would it cost to get everything i neeD?

Clown Tangs get huge, I think up to about 15", and really aggressive. Blue Tangs get too big for a 55g, too, at about 10-12" long. These two are way too active for your size tank.

Snowflake should be fine.

I'd say any Dwarf Angel would work, maybe a Hawk of some kind, and possibly a "dwarf" Puffer of some kind, as others have stated.

What equipment do you have already, do you salt, sand, rock? And I cant speak for your LFS, I dont know their prices.

1-Tank,2- stand, 3-skimmer, 4 light,5 Live rock 55#'s, 6 heater, 7 sand, 8 salt, 9 Reverse Osmosis water(either buy it from a local fish store every 2 weeks or get a water purifier, 10-probably 2 powerheads for flow like Maxi jet 1200's.. so those 10 basics. Id really recommend doing research on a hang on overflow for your 55 and getting a sump going. its really simple and is a dream for keeping all of your equipment. I have a 55 with a hang on overflow. PM me your e-mail address and Ill walk you through the process and give you some tips on what equipment you can get to save money and where... -Zach

For decent equipment and LR your looking at several hundred dollars easily. And also, no tangs r good for a 55g tank.

ok well im debating if i want a salt water tank... idk if i wanna spend almost a grand now and then spend around7-8 later for a shark one. i wanna set my 55g up tho. idk if i want salt or some blue gills since im from wisconsin. because i like them so idk and its alot cheaper. and can still look really nice. but i also heard you can get fresh water bamboos???

Try looking at the classified forum of this site or maybe craigslist or ebay and try to pick up some used equipment. You can usually get LR real cheap from people on this site that r breaking down their tanks also.

i just think its going to be too much and idk if i wanna risk that much money and not likeing it right now.. i think im going to just go with a fresh watch blue gill tank. thanks guys. ones i get a better job my fire fighter career i will get a tank and will not be worried about the fish like i would be now. thanks
