6 gallon nano cube for Dwarf Seahorses?

HI,
I was thinking about purchasing the 6 gallon JBJ nano cube to keep a herd of dwarf seahorses. Does anyone have experience with this type of tank? Do you think it is a good tank for dwarf seahorses? IF not, what is a good setup?

All help is greatly appreciated

I would work. I would take out the back filter part beacuse it might be too much flow for them. I use the Bubble filters in my tank.

So I could do 6 of them in a 6 gallon tank? I just read your thread on your new tank and its awesome man, hopefully that gets finished soon!

Thanks. Its a Slooooow process. the only thing slowing me down is $$ as always lol.

You could go as high as 50 or more probably. i had about 30 at one time in my 5 gal.

lol I hear ya man, well thanks for all of the help and keep us posted on it, that small tank built into the wall is sweeeeeeeeet.

The more the merrier in a 6 gallon. In order to get dwarves to eat there has to be a high concentration of food in the water, so if you only have 6 you will have serious issues with keeping up your water quality, or if you feed less they will starve. They stave easily because they are so small so you should feed twice a day to keep everyone healthy (IME). Also, if you don't want that many sea horses consider getting some dwarf friendly tank mates to help take care of the extra food. Sexy shrimp are my personal fav's but there are plenty others.

I would also consider buying a plain 2.5 or 5 gallon tank and setting that up specifically for your horses rather than using the nano, I think you have better results for a lot less money. The 6 gallon is expensive and not ideal for your purpose.

I got a 6gal tank at walmart for like $35 I actually still have it and would be willing to sell it. I have no use for it any more if you interested.

I ordered the 6 gallon, gonna get it cycled, see what the flow is like and get some macro algae going, if it's not right for dwars, i might just set up a little reef and go with a smaller tank for the dwarfs. Can i really get a sexy shrimp with the dwarfs? does he eat the brine, and what other tank mates are compatible?

I wouldn't go smaller if it was me. I have a 12 gal. tank and it is great for dwarfs. They don't need the food concentration people say they do. They can hunt very well. I started with 12 and now have 43+ after 5 months. I am also raising copepods to feed them. They are much more nutritious than BBS.

Do you guys run a skimmer on your dwarf seahorse tanks? I am thinking of setting one up (custom 9 gallon) and originally thought skimmers were not ideal for seahorse tanks because the horses can ingest the microbubbles if the skimmer puts any out, but I've also heard that since they need to be fed so much, you need to skim heavily.

I have a Rio nano skimmer on mine. It actually works pretty well. I would definately recommend a skimmer if you can. I am pretty sure the micribubbles thing is a myth. I wouldn't want a huge amount filling the tank though.
