60g cube plumbing questions...

#1. My tanks overflow drains at 1300g/hr, the eheim 1262 returns at 910g/hr. My headloss will be 5.54 ft. so I will get aprox. 800g/hr actual return rate. I will have 2x tunze for circulation inside the tank. Will the 800g/hr be appropriate for this tank.

#2. the tank is predrilled with 1.5" drain and 1" return. The eheim 1262 outflow is 3/4" . So I was going to plumb it with 1" pvc... does that change the flow rate greatly?

The more research i do... the more confused i am getting. I still have to match a skimmer to the return pump I end up choosing.

What size tank? We need that information!!! The usual rate of flow through your sump is 5-8 times the DT volume. It is also standard to match the return pump (include head loss) to your skimmer, not the other way around. I haven't had issues in the past where I had more flow than the skimmer was rated for, use the recommended number as a minimum. The total tank flow including powerheads depends upon what type of tank you plan on keeping. A fish only tank is fine at 20 times the DT. Soft corals at 20-30 times and if you want high flow corals such as most SPS 35-40 or more flow.

Thanks for the reply, The tank size was in the title....60g. I see i was matching the skimmer to the return pump, i now understand why that was wrong. The skimmer is rated at 530gph so i should be fine with the eheim 1262 at 910gph. The eheim specs say 910gph , head height 12 ft. Does that mean it is 910gph up to 12ft of head height?

The tank will be a reef tank. i have the DT flow covered. The return pump was just for filtration circulation. I have a couple tunze powerheads for DT flow.
