6105 cord disassembly

I own two 6105's. The cord attached to each pump has a small box on it, where the cord to the driver gets plugged in. Most of my equipment is in the basement below my display tank (display tank is not in the basement). I have a very small opening to run wires and pipes though.

I am tempted to try to remove this small box from the end of the cord so it fits through the small hole to my basement, and I can keep all my controllers, drivers, etc down there. How likely am I to damage my pumps by trying to remove this box? Any advice on how to remove it?

That small junction box can be opened by pressing in the tabs on the sides. Both tabs need to be pushed in at the same time and then the two halves will separate. You need to be very careful doing this as the circuit board inside has fragile components and solder joints.

Depending on the size of the hole you're trying to pull this through, removing the junction box may not even be helpful. The length and width of the circuit board inside is only barely smaller than the box itself. So it won't make it much smaller, but if it's close to fitting through now, it might help.
