7 or 8 megapix

is there that big of a difference? I just got a Kodak easy share m753 but could have got the 8 megapixal for $20 more. My theory in getting the cheaper is that there cant be that much difference. What is your opinion?

The only difference will be if you ever print pictures 8x10 or bigger. That is when megapixels matter the most.

:) The differences between 7 and 8 megapixels on that type of camera are so slight as to be undetectable. Even on a full blown DSLR I would pay money if somebody could tell the difference between two identical pictures, from identical cameras, with identical sensors except one was a 7MP and the other an 8MP sensor.

Agreed. For me, 6MP was always the magic number. Back when everyone was parked on 3.34MP, I kept saying "I'll convert from film when 6MP is affordable." I'd even be willing to stretch 6MP to 10x14", quite honestly.

okay thanks guys. I was needing it to do scenic panoramas (sp?) while backpacking. I got the Kodak easyshare m753, people keep telling me this is a bad camera, is this true?

I've printed as large as 20 x 30 from an 8mp camera. It's not great if you've got your nose pressed up against it but from any normal viewing distance it's just fine.

A digital guru on the news said for what most of us use our digital cameras for that once you get past 5MP you won't notice a difference except your wallet will be much lighter.

Doesn't more having more pixels give you more flexibility with cropping in on images? I guess this may not be limiting for most applications.
