Well as long as you replace the carbon filter regularly that will prolong the membrane life since chlorine kills them quick. Also having good di resin and replacing it regularly will keep your tds down to zero. The ro membrane is just the first real stage of removing tds from the water, di resin does the rest. If your local water supply already has low tds your filters will last longer. My water is very hard and has a tds of 400+ at the tap after the ro membrane i get 8tds when new and 10-15 tds whe n the filter is getting old after about a year.
tds numbers vary around the world, if you have good clean source water then you can have a very low number.
some parts of the us have numbers way over 400.
tds number does not mean the water is not safe to drink it just means that something is in the water.
for example traces of minerals - that might even be good for you can raise the value.
I can imagine with the river systems and snow melt in Washington state you may have really clean water, if so enjoy it!
