70w or 150w on Nano 24g

I am trying to figure out what to get? A 70w or 150w HQI for my 24 gal Nano Cube? I was told by the guy at the store the 70w would do me good? He feared the 150w COULD cause heat problems. Whats the verdict?

I got the 70W and i still have heat problems...i have a fan running 24/7 moving air between the tank and the light, and the temp stays around 80. But if you think that you can control the heat, definately go for the 150

I got a 150w sunpod on my NC24 with MJ1200 pump and I love it. Room temp at 74 so no heat issue (80-81.5). What's you room temp? If it's 80+ then 70w.

I have a Giesemann 150 on my 24 Nano Cube, I run it open top with a fan blowing while the light is on, temp stays a constant 77, with all that I lose about 1/2 gal. to evap a day. No regrets here with the 150, it is the way to go IMO.:D

He is right. Yet you may well have heat problems with the 70. I would go with the 70 but if you go higher, see if you can fit a nice chiller in your budget.

How did you mount the fixture?

What are you going to be keeping in the tank......We have a 150w with an open top and have very little heat issues but our AC is set a little lower then I would like also.

I use a 175W on a 10 gallon. Before you pass out imagining that, it's an XM 15000K which has a pretty wimpy PAR, and the fixture came off a used car lot and I left the glass shield on it, so that cuts down the PAR also. I have a fan on the sump that runs when the light is on, and have had zero temp. problems, stays at 79, but my house is kept at 75 here in Florida.

Here are some pictures of my setup.

Well, ya know, when they're selling Hippo's that are about 1" long I'm thinking I'd rather have it in a nano for awhile until it gets on its feet. I can't see it making much headway during the feeding frenzy in my 150.

Before having this hippo, I had a small yellow tang but it grows to 3" so I gave it to my buddy and got this mini hippo. My hippo is very happy in my nano right now (strong current) and once it gets close to 3", I'll take him to my LFS and trade for mini tang (powder blue maybe).

they are very beautiful, and so much personality i hear.... i wish i could do that at my LFS but they have like the worst stock ever and the other closest one that would have it is like 400+KM :(

Wow gordon... can you sau overkill? Why 2 halides? 1 would work perfectly fine.
Was thinking the same thing!
Whats the purpose of the second fixture? you could go smaller and cleaner if its for the fuge lighting.

nice set up tho with the auto dosers and chiller

At first I have 1 sunpod with 14000k bulb but I like the look of the corals under 20000k so I switched the bulb from 14000k to 20000k and it looks a lot darker so I order another sunpod so now both using 20000k. But my 2 sunpods at 20000k doesn't look any brighter than 1 sunpod using 140000k thou.
