75 build/upsize questions

Hey Gang,

I am moving up from a Oceanic 37 cube to a custom 75 cube-ish. My plans are to have this be a mixed reef, SPS, LPS, softies and zooanthids.

Today I have it filled with freshwater to do a leak check and to test plumbing. I bought it from a guy in Jupiter, he had the tank, stand, and sump custom made from a guy in Port St. Lucie. It is a rimless tank 30x24x24 (LxWxH). Overflow drilled through the back wall. He had a sheet of acrylic cut and mitered around the edges to make a top for the tank. This allows me to set the lights on top and will help with evaporation.

It came with 3 LEDs (dimmable),2 were on the top and one for the refugium, an SC150 protein skimmer, sock/sock holder, Phosban 150 reactor, 2 Mag 9.5(one for return pump, one spare), the stand has power strips and a timer strip mounted inside. They guy also threw in all of his test kits, supplements and extra aquarium "junk".

Now comes my questions:
The sump was custom made but fits long way front to back, not the traditional long way side to side. Not sure why this was done this way but it is what it is. The sump is 28x15 1/4x12. With the sump in long way front to back, it hangs out the back of the stand about 3-4", I don't have a problem with this. It actually works out well because the drain line drops right down into the sump.

What are the thoughts of this? Should I change the sump to have a more traditional design? I can access everything without difficulty, just can not see the refugium the way most can.

Will the 2 LEDs be sufficient for coverage of the tank? I could possibly hang them above the tank to get a better spread but for now, while it is being leak checked, it appears as though the coverage should be sufficient. I could always put all 3 LEDs on top of the tank and use a different light for the refugium. I plan on this being a mixed reef.

Any thoughts, ideas or opinions would be welcomed.

If the sump doesn't create any functional/access issues then no reason to change it. For a mixed reef the 2 fixtures assuming they are adequate should be good. Can't imagine all 3 unless you are doing SPS dominant. Nice looking set-up.

The only issue I have with the sump configuration is not being able to visualize the refugium completely. I don't think that it will be much of an issue. I will try it for a while and see how it goes. I can always change it later if need be.
Thanks for the compliment. I think it is a great looking set up. I am going to try and get it up and running this week. I have a line on liverock.

I don't plan on it being SPS dominant, more of a mixed reef with a few SPS. Although that may change once I get started.
