I have been wanting to do this for a very long time! As of right now the only thing I am 100% sure on is that this is the stand I am using. Skimmer, sump, calcium addition method, etc are all pretty much up in the air however I do have a few ideas on what I want to do. It all depends on what I can afford and whether my nerves can hold up Anyways here are pics of my diy stand from start to finish

I think it looks great but am worried about two things for you. One, it seems you are not accounting for side to side movement, and are relying on screws to take most of your lateral movement. I would recommend a back panel or at least braces to reinforce the corners. Try standing on the stand and have someone push/pull one end. There should be no give.

Secondly, although it looks great, I do not know how much noise the screen will suppress in a bedroom.

It is hard to see but check the 9th pic down, u can see there are metal braces installed in the bottom corners in that picture and 6 more were added to the top and back of the stand. The noise is something that I am a little concerned about though I already have 2 aquariums running in my bedroom and they no longer bother me. I've got a remora going 24/7 and that is about the loudest thing I have ever heard that was attached to an aquarium!

Cody I am just a little concerned also. (the stand really does look nice) but maybe you can put a horizontal wood brace (2x4)that would connect you back center brace with the side brace. It would need to span the entire back side with no cuts. So you would need to mount it to the inside of the center brace. It would also give you a place to mount your plugs.

So u think I should add this in conjunction with the metal brackets? It would provide me a place to mount plugs though.

did you use any wood glue at all between those boards, or all screws?

No glue just 3 inch screws.

The trim on the wall would prevent this, not to mention that due to the fact that the stand is sitting on carpet so the weight of the water will depress the strands causing the stand to sink. If it was attached to the wall than I would imagine that it would either tear the drywall out or cause other damage to the house.
