90 Gallon Stock List Suggestions

I just bought a 90 gallon (48 x 24 x 18) set up for my new office from a local guy. I have a 200 gallon FOWLR at home, but I plan on adding corals for the first time. I would just like to know if anything on my list is going to be a problem with corals, crabs, shrimp, snails, etc. I would like to have:

- Yellow Tang
- Tomini Tang
- Flame Angel or Eibli Angel
- Canary Blenny
- (2) Clown Fish
- Fire Fish
- Bi-Color Dottyback
- (3) Blue Chromis

Yellow Tang - :thumbsup:

Tomini Tang - :thumbsup: There's a chance the 2 tangs will spar a bit, but in a 90g, especially if introduced symultaniously, they should be fine together

Flame Angel or Eibli Angel - Go with a flame if you *really* want an angel. You're going to get a million people telling you no angel can ever be trusted, but flames have a significantly better track record in reef tanks. Ultimately it's up to you whether or not you feel it's worth risking. Fleshy LPS like acans, welsos, blastos etc. and zoanthids are most at risk, but IMO the flame is well worth it.

Canary Blenny - :thumbsup:

(2) Clown Fish - :thumbsup:

Fire Fish - :thumbsup:

Bi-Color Dottyback - Either put him in the 200g, or give him to a LFS. Bicolor dottys are extremely aggressive fish, and he's going to make it hell for a lot of the smaller fish/mobile inverts in your average community tank

(3)Blue Chromis - :thumbsup:

... Good luck with the new tank :dance:

Thank you!

Any recommendations on a good small fish to replace the bi-color dottyback?

You're welcome :beer: There's lots of good options, but if you want something with a similar look I'd look into the royal gramma, springeri dottyback, or orchid dottyback.

what corals would you recommend for my set up? When I do buy them I plan on starting off with about 10 frags. What should I get?

Depends, are you interested in softies. LPS or SPS. regardless you need to do your research on water chemistry and how to maintain it (using an autodoser/calcium reactor). larger aquariums chemistry tends to be more stable.

in terms of all the frags, go to your LfS and pick yourself nice looking frangs. all should live provided good chemistry :)

Also If you are interested in a mixed reef I would go heavy sps with only ! or " softies max

There's different "styles" of reef tanks. There's SPS dominant tanks, there's softy tanks (the simplest and safest option for beginners), mixed reefs (little bit of everything), NPS tanks, Caribbean style reef (my favorite ;)) etc. For a beginner though, I'd look into the following, which are all forgiving, beautiful coral IME...

* Fiji Yellow Leather
* Green Toadstool Leather
* Xenia
* Photosynthetic Gorgonians
* Frogspawn
* Hammer
* Torch
* Ricordea or any mushroom for that matter
* Zoanthids
* Blue Sympodium

... I'd look into these guys, which should all thrive under average reef conditions, and they're some of my all time favorites. Decent lighting, decent stability, etc. Good luck :fish1:

Not the best choice, I would wait until a 5ft+ tank arrives
- Tomini Tang
Eh, I wouldn't but you could if you wanted to
- Flame Angel or Eibli Angel
Fine, may get nippy at coral
- Canary Blenny
Fine, from one of my favorite genera of fish, Meiacanthus
- (2) Clown Fish
Depending on the species, fine, which did you have in mind?
- Fire Fish
Fine, I would get a pair
- Bi-Color Dottyback
Fairly aggressive
- (3) Blue Chromis
Most likely will dwindle down to one

Thank you!

Bicolor or Tailspot Blenny (Ecsenius bicolor or stigmatura)?

Thank you guys for all the help. Im taking your advice and getting rid of the bicolor dottyback and Ill only be getting one chromis. The yellow tang can always go in my 200 gallon if he ever gets to big for the 90 gallon, but Ive decided to change the stock list a little bit as well. Heres the new list

- Yellow Tang
- Tomini Tang
- Flame Angel
- Midas Blenny
- Blue Gudeon Dartfish
- (2) Ocellaris Clowns
- Fire Fish
- Blue Chromis

If any of these are going to be a problem let me know.

Honestly, I'd skip the blue gudgeon, IME they just hide *constantly* and unless it's a small, ultra docile community tank, you're probably not going to see him. Other's may have had different experiences with this species though, I just know I've tried keeping them in my own personal tanks, as well as in several display tanks at work, and all were painfully shy fish. The zebra dartfish may be a better option, but it's up to you :beer:

If you are going for "easy coral" (no brains or hard to keep stonies) then a burrowing fish like jaw fish pairs and pistol shrimp goby pairs are the most interesting things ever!!
